Nadira Julia (Jakarta, 1993) is an artist and a visual worker who currently resides in Bandung. Nadira started making artwork since before entering university. In painting she is influenced by a realistic approach of artists such as Gerhard Richter and Gottfried Helnwein. Cold and dark saturation colours her visual world, that also has characteristics such as extreme contrast, emphasising other influences in dramatic expression. She also works on other medium such as drawing in pencil, watercolour, gouache, and ink.
Instead of following a single narrative identity, as part of the new generation who lived under the current Metamodern and digital culture, satiric humour in the daily information current also become part of her visual exploration. In addition to exploring technics, she intends to represent gender discourse in Indonesia, by investigating back the dimension of self-conscious identification, with the construction in shared social life and the nature of women’s characteristic itself.
